Oh ... ok ... no worries Sad

will see what I can dig up ... in the mean time I think that the path we should wander in the end is graphics libraries (exe/dll's) ...

Untill this is available I will just use the Chess Cases fonts (allthough they have this annoying transparent property)

Hmmm ... had a bit of family affairs at the weekend so no newer code to post Embarassed

At the beginning of the post it is mentioned that communication will go through a ini file. Ain't it possible to communicate through a TCP/IP port, so you won't get locks on that ini file ?

Don't get me wrong, i don't know how this should be done and communication through a ini file is by far the most simple solution, but maybe someone has this already on the shelf ?

---
Sorry about the late post Confused and maybe this ain't an issue at all.

Jan,

It is indeed possible to communicate through an ini file (it won't get locked)
Already proofed that with a 4 player Network game (which is sadly not yet finished) which performed ok handling (on tests) 3 games with 4 players at the same time Wink

And Yes, I'd prefer to have communications over Ports/ Socks but that ain't possible (yet) Crying or Very sad

Actually it is. There's a SOCKET DLL available for free that is COM-able. We've discussed this DLL a while back on the KORG BBS and I don't have the URL at my hand at the moment but a search of KORG should find the thread.

I only remember because I took a look at the thing but didn't have a need to it at that point.

Here is the latest Chess Set Library. It includes a viewer to browse the chess sets. Note: KiXforms doesn't yet support exe/dll support for Imagelists, so for now the icons can only be displayed at 32x32.

Chris,

Downloaded, very cool ... so you have added some more sets. Maybe Shawn is willed to update me(us?) soon regarding the latest in progress build so that I can see them too Wink

Ok, did some digging on the Fonts and gave this idea up as naturally Fonts don't support fill colors just Greyscale 'lines' on transparent Embarassed

Now that this is clear I will try to find some (OFFLINE!) Notebook time to get the thing going

Ok guys - I'm finally on the same page as you - just got the chess board up and running. Very impressive I must say. Trying to figure-out why HotBackColor and HotForeColor isn't working ... hmmm ...

So what we need is something like the following:

Code:

$ImageList = $Form.ImageList
$ImageList.ImageSize = 48,48 ; or whatever
$ImageList.Images.Add("filename.dll;n")

???

-Shawn

Ok - the reason why HotBackColor isn't working (at least in the code I saw) was (is) that setting BackColor always resets HotBackColor back to the value of BackColor - that is to say - HotBackColor is always set after BackColor:

$Button.BackColor = "Red"
$Button.HotBackColor = "Blue"

if BackColor is subsequently set again, HotBackColor has to be reset as well.

-Shawn
[/code]

Shawn, that's exactly what I'm looking for. The Add method, that is.

As far as the HotBackColor goes, I figured that out after I had already sent you that chessboard. Maybe that should get mentioned in the documentation(?).

Ok - im starting to work on that right now then - I've got the lastest build of forms ready to post ... just waiting to connect with Rod to get it posted to the board ... going to post the CHM file as well. Would like to have a good sit-down discussion with you and anyone else that might have comments on the CHM ... to be honest, im not really 100% statisfied with the format of the help file - but I guess any help file is better than no help file.

In terms of these EXE's, DLLs and ICL's that contain icons ... could you explain what an ICL is - is it an EXE or a DLL ... should ICL be supported in forms ? Should ICL's be the recommended packaging of icon libraries ... could you send one across to me ?

-Shawn

Interesting ... I have that a bit (tiny bit) furhter and decided not to hazzle with HotBackColor and so ... Even more I have actually the Buttons set to

Code:

        $ = execute("$$btnField_$xC$yC.FlatStyle=1")
        $ = execute("$$btnField_$xC$yC.BorderStyle=0")

That is necessary to work with rectangles (1 pxl Borders / The PictureBox in background) later on ; planned also to introduce later on a button to Show possible moves on specific figures ...

But what do I babble here ... on with the code ... Rolling Eyes

(Shawn, can you email me with the forms version you mentioned above ? )

J, I think that the code I sent to Shawn is the same one I sent you in e-mail the other day. It's pretty much the same one as the font-based chessboard except it's using my icon library for the chess pieces. I added HotBackColor to make it more visually distinctive when mousing over a piece.
